{"id":277,"date":"2015-07-15T16:44:04","date_gmt":"2015-07-15T22:44:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.myoklahomacitydentist.com\/blog\/?p=277"},"modified":"2015-07-15T16:44:04","modified_gmt":"2015-07-15T22:44:04","slug":"child-restrained-at-dentist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myoklahomacitydentist.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/15\/child-restrained-at-dentist\/","title":{"rendered":"Child restrained at dentist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I read a news story this month about a child who was restrained in a papoose without the parents consent. \u00a0The article said it was a common practice. \u00a0This makes me terrified to bring my child to the dentist. \u00a0It seems like abuse to me. \u00a0How can that be common?<\/p>\n<p>Olive D. &#8211; Baltimore<\/p>\n<p>Olive,<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think they meant it was common practice to use the papoose without a parent&#8217;s consent. \u00a0If you don&#8217;t want your child in a papoose, your child doesn&#8217;t go in a papoose. It&#8217;s a simple as that. \u00a0Though, I will say always be sure to read any treatment consent forms. \u00a0In this particular case, the dentist said the parents had signed a consent for restraints. \u00a0But, because the dentist only discussed laughing gas with them, they didn&#8217;t realize what was in the consent form. \u00a0If the dentist left that out of the discussion to intentionally mislead the parents, it would be considered quite unethical.<\/p>\n<p>Bottom line, find a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myoklahomacitydentist.com\/childrens-dentistry.html\">pediatric dentist<\/a> you trust. \u00a0Have open communication with them. Ask questions. \u00a0Many dentists will also let parents come back into the operatory with their child. \u00a0For some kids that is a comfort.
